“Monsrud can be described as the babysister of Susanne Sundfør...” - Amanda Olsen, Bands Of Tomorrow
Norwegian Ane Monsrud has currently released the EP “Mysterious Connections”. The 23-year old songwriter grew up in “Ghetto Skjetten” on the east-side of Oslo and is deeply rooted in the norwegian sound, as heard and found in artists like Ane Brun, Thomas Dybdahl and Susanne Sundfør. The electronic elements have occurred with great inspiration from Gundelach and Sigur Rós and reviews have mentioned Efterklang as a strong synonym to Ane’s music.
The music by Monsrud can be defined as alternative scandinavian pop with an antagonistic mix of organic and electronic sound. She welcomes listeners into her world of everyday-life’s racing thoughts as well as philosophical and existential questions. The music fulfills its own structure with intentional, original choices that won’t necessarily fit into the commercial pop structure of today.
“Mysterious Connections” is an EP of 7 songs, each of which has its own story. They are reflections of personal stories, where the common thread is the fact the music was written throughout the same period of time: a dark, cold and long winter. This is music from the heart and it aims for honesty, intimacy and originality. The lyrics are complimented by an intimate wall of sound, made by the producer Torben Jensen on laptop.
After almost two years in Torbens homestudio and intense songwriting, young Monsrud is finally ready to spred her wings and soar.
" BulBulBhang dances on the edge of ancient folkmusic and electrified impulses from around the world. Vocalist Sofie Trolde is leading this unique and experimental orchestra who enjoys the freedom of improvisation, the epic highs and the beautifull lows".
