Front Line Assembly is a Canadian electro-industrial band formed by Bill Leeb in 1986 after leaving Skinny Puppy. Influenced by early electronic and (post-)industrial acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, Portion Control, D.A.F., Test Dept, SPK, and Severed Heads, Front Line Assembly has developed its own unique sound while combining elements of electronic body music (EBM).
Throughout their rising career, Front Line Assembly have been at the forefront of the industrial electronic music scene, having perfected their sound within the genre, experimenting and pushing the sound barriers to the extreme.
Front Line Assembly have always been the primary focus of Vancouver-based musician Bill Leeb. A founding member of Skinny Puppy, Leeb moved on to form FLA in 1986 with Michael Balch. FLA enraged many of their fans in 1994 when they began to experiment with their established electronic-only sound. The album Millenium, with its heavy doses of live and sampled metal guitars, dared its audience to grow and expand with the band beyond industrial’s perceived barriers.
Front Line Assembly’s 1998 album, FLAvor of the Weak, featured the band’s first flirtation with electronica. Then finally in 2005 came the event that everyone was waiting for, a Front Line Assembly fusion. Heavy pounding beats, atmospheric strings, percolating melodies, dynamic synths and Bill Leeb’s trademark vocals couldn’t be fused together any tighter if you tried to do it at an atomic level. Throughout the years, FLA has seen many line-up changes, although Bill Leeb remains the constant behind the band.
CrackDown's sound is hard to label – it creates a fusion between the alternative electro sound from the eighties with modular soundscapes (created on machines from the same era), melodic songs – and even classical piano.
CrackDown consists of Kim Holm and Lasse Mønsted, who were both active on the alternative scene as performers and promoters before they set out to create a new sound together.
Two singles have been released, getting worldwide attention from alternative radio stations and DJ's (in the US, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Belgium and France). Also ”Beginning” has been presented on the Danish National Radio Broadcast.
