Club Undergroovin' is back with tunes from the past!

And to start out the night we have No Babies and Margy Pepper from the states. Two times radical queer bands playing loud kitty-puke-punk-jazz....

MARGY PEPPER (US) - Emotional shoegazey shred

Some sweet indie alternative pop punk coming from Margy Pepper. With their harmonized female vocals, distorted bass and clean melodic guitar, and drums that stumble along, there are elements of influences like Grass Widow, Hole (minus Love), and even Potty Mouth, but the closest I can compare them to is the band Susan out of L.A. Songs don’t vary widely from one song to the next, not to say they are a one-trick pony, but the progression of their songs seems to stay pretty linear. Still charming.

NO BABIES (US) - Loud fast noisy rock

The influence of each member's interest in punk and hardcore is evident in No Babies' harsh instrumental tones, abrupt changes, fast tempos, and atonal vocals. Yet, while it draws inspiration from certain musical characteristics of punk, No Babies' sound is largely differentiated by the presence of brass instruments. The band often delves into live improvisation free-jazz and no wave, a short-lived scene in New York in the early Eighties that members of No Babies frequently reference. Like No Babies, no wave artists combined punk's immediacy and DIY ethic with esoteric experimentation, performance art, and various other genres and instrumentation.
